With time and use, the carpets in our home may become loose. This isn’t only an ugly problem, but it can be dangerous, too! If left untreated, it can cause accidents or result in the carpet coming off altogether. So, if you want to know what to do about it, Elite Cleanpro in Palm Desert has this guideline on how to fix it.

How to Tighten Up a Loose Carpet

Get Your Tools

For this project, you’ll need a knee kicker, a hammer, a chisel, a pneumatic stapler, a carpet cutter and gloves.

Take it Back

The first thing to do is actually make the carpet looser. Pull the unattached end back to expose the tackless. Wear your gloves to protect yourself.

Move and Nail

Place the tackless about an inch away from its previous position to create new holes on the floor (the nails should be facing down). Once there, use your hammer to settle it.

Tighten

Here comes the kicker! The knee kicker, that is. Grab the loose end of the carpet and utilize the knee kicker to extend and tighten it as much as possible.

Secure

When the carpet is nice and tight as can be, use the hammer and chisel to get the tacks to grab on to it. For extra assurance, staple the ends of the carpet with a pneumatic stapler.

Cut Off

If after tightening the carpet you see that there is some excess left, take the carpet cutters and cut it off! It can be a hazard, so don’t hesitate to remove it.
